Brilliant
musicians can easily sketch whole worlds with a few strokes. Fabrizio
Bosso, with his quartet is able to suggest, through sounds, endless universes,
thanks also to the young talents by his side: Luca Manzuta at the piano,
Luca Bulgarelli at the double bass and Lorenzo Tucci at the drums. Deep-rooted
in a hypersensitive technique, the quarted rides all music styles, paying
attention - even though not exclusive- to standards; but, in many pieces
written by the leader and Luca Mannutza, we can easily trace the attempt
of creating a new point of contact. A dimension of fusion and inspiration.
Their music isn't codified in a rigid system, nor completely free from
it. The iron technique of the four musicians, their journey through memory,
the dialectic and dialogic tension drives the quartet to exhaust an idea
after the other, shifting from deepest impulses to daring irony. They
are fully capable of binding a sudden outburst from common feeling to
their music.
The
quartet, which has recorded before, will soon enter the studio, with a
string orchestra and some guests.
Luca Mannutza was born in Cagliari in 1968. He has being playing piano
since he was a child and graduated from the G. P. da Palestrina at the
age of eighteen. By that period he approached progressive rock, discovering
Weathering Report, and in the early 90s he started a collaboration with
the Argentinian saxophonist Hector Costita. At the same time he came in
touch with Andy Gravish first and, later on, with the italian musical
scene marked by Paolo Fresu and Paolo Gianmarco. By June 2002 he won the
Massimo Urbani Prize and can be traced in quartet with Max Ionata, with
whom he also presents a valid duo on Joe Henderson's compositions.
Luca
Bulgarelli is one of the current greatest young double bass players; he
also plays the electric bass and is interested in digital instruments.
Gifted with high technical mastery, deep and rich expressive sensibility,
coming from Abruzzo but living in Rome, he is proving to be an encyclopedic
musician who's building himself an important role in other many important
projects such as Roberto Gatto's duo, Sergio Cammariere's band, in partnership
with Ada Montellanico ed Enrico Pieranunzi. He is the leader of a spectacular
quartet with Bosso himself at the drums, Gianluca Putrella at the trombone
and the eclectic Mr. Fabietto at the electronic instruments.
Lorenzo Tucci is an unbelivable drummer whose technique is the result
of a scrupulous scomposition both of afro-american drumming, which goes
from Elvin Jones to Tony Williams, and of Shally Manne and Buddy Rich's
impressionism. He often performes together with Rosario Giuliani, he's
a High Five's member and is part of the group of musicians recruited by
Nicola Conta to his crossover projects. 2001 is the year of his first
album, "Sweet Revelation" (Philology).
