Fabrizio Bosso & Irio De Paula Duo

Fabrizio
Bosso :
trumpet
Irio
De Paula
: guitar
Firm,
marked by an unusual timbre, a geographical bet. The duo formed by Irio
de Paula (guitar) and Fabrizio Bosso (trumpet), strikes with its creativity,
logical structure, feeling, lyricism and with its cleverness in making
the most of what they have learned from history and study. The two have
met by chance, and have produced an album, "Once I loved" (Philology
2003) which fully expresses the magic atmosphere of jazz: they once didn't
know each other, later they fell in love.
"A rare talent, even from a human point of view".
Irio De Paula adores Bosso. And during live performances, even more than
in studio, he supports him both harmonically and rhythmically with all
his Brasilian energy. The continuous alternation between popular Brasilian
cadences and jazz influences produces a high-sophisticated musical research,
without getting trapped by the excessive mannerism that often marks those
who venture out of their usual territories. The repertoire consists of
necessarly ingenious standard rereadings, Antonio Carlos Jobim's popular
Brasilian music, Marco Valle's interpretation and, of course, wide margin
is allowed to improvisation and personal interpretation. Irio and Fabrizio
have cut yet another record intitled "Four for Jazz", realised
with the quartet formed with Moriconi and Manzi.
Irio De Paula: Though he moved to Italy in the 70s, after a tour with
Brasilian singer Elza Soares, Irio de Paula has always maintained a strong
cultural bond with his place of origin, Brasil. He was born in Rio de
Janeiro and started studying the guitar at an early age, going along with
brasilian popular personalities such as Paulo Moura, Baden Powell, Rauzinho,
Dijalma Ferreira, Eumir Deodato, Juarez and often performig alongside
Astrud Gilberto and Chico Buarque with whom he explored samba, bossa nova
and his land's folklore. As far as jazz is concerned he boasts a wide
discography as a leader and numerous partecipations in recordings with
Sal Nistico, Steve Grossman, Dannie Richmond, Archie Shepp, Don Pullen
e Ray Mantilla among others. He plays acoustic and electric guitar, and
often enjoys playing percussions and cavaquinho, the small brasilian guitar.
